My Deliverer

For my last post, I want to focus on an important subject: Jesus being our deliverer. Ps 34:4 says, "I sought the Lord, and He answered me and delivered me from all my fears." I love that verse. It doesn't just say God delivered me from some of my fears. No. It says, He delivered me from all of my fears. Is there anything in your life that you are afraid of right now? Do you have any uncertainties? You may have a concern about a relationship in your life and the future of that relationship. Or maybe there's a loved one who's in the hospital, and his or health is in question. Maybe you're uncertain about the future and your career. Things may have been going well, when suddenly life took an unexpected turn. Fear. It is something we all face. It doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, single or married, you live in Africa or Europe or wherever! Fear affects everyone.

As a believer, I know there is a God who is greater than any fear in our lives, and His name is Jesus. He is our Deliverer. As you are reading this, I want to encourage you. No matter what situation you are facing and no matter how uncertain things may look, God is more than able to deliver you from your fears. Does this mean things will turn out exactly the way you want? No, but it does mean that if you place the situation in God's hands everything will work out the way it needs to. This verse also encourages us that God is with us in the storm. God knows your needs. He understands your fears. He is able to help. Many times, God's help comes not in God removing the storm from our lives but rather giving us peace in the storm.

It is in the storm that God teaches us our peace and our joy are not dependent upon how easy life is. God wants you and I to know that He is our peace no matter what. In order for God to teach us to have peace in the storm and to remove fear, He has to allow us to enter seasons where life is tough. Uncertainty, unexpected turns in life, trials..all of it can bring about fear. However, it can also teach us to rely on God to do something only He can do; and that is: Deliver us from fear.

God's priority is not for you and I to have a simple life. It is His priority for us to find Him to be the source of all of our needs; including being our Deliverer. Will you allow God to be your Deliverer today? I don't care what the situation is. God is more than able to deliver you from ANY fear. Ephesians 3:20 says, "Now glory be to God! By His might power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope." In other words, this verse is saying do not underestimate the power of Christ. He is able to do more than you and I could even imagine. Satan will try his best to keep you bound in fear. In those times, remember this: God is greater; much, much greater than the enemy (1 John 4:4.) Keep your eyes on Christ. Satan only desires to distract you. Pray. Read the Bible. Talk to God. That is how you overcome fear. I love the Message version of Phil 4:6-7; it says, "Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It's wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life."

Here is my final word (this is something you can think of as you begin 2021), you and I have no reason to fear because a Mighty God named Jesus is by our side. Place your trust in Him and allow Him to deliver you from all your fears. With God, it is possible to have peace in the storm. No, I can't promise you a certain outcome for your situation, but here is what I can promise you, God is with you in the storm and He knows your every concern. God is with you and He is more than able to deliver you from all your fears. Have a Happy New Year and God bless!
