The Season of Waiting

Are you currently in a season of waiting? A season of waiting for a husband or a wife? A new home or a financial breakthrough? Or maybe you are waiting for God to give you that job opportunity you always believed you should have? Are you waiting to finally have a child? For that son or daughter to come back to Christ? Or a certain relationship to be fixed?

If you said yes to anything above (or multiple things) then you are in good company. Many of us are waiting for something. Some of us have been waiting for YEEEAARRSS! Even in scripture, we see individuals who had to wait: Abraham waited for God to give him a son, Joseph waited in prison, Job waited through his suffering and pain, and David had to wait to be appointed king. All throughout scripture we see this common theme: Waiting.

Why does God have us wait so long for the things we want the most? It's because He is teaching us. The past few days, God has really been dealing with me on this subject, and I believe there are four things each of us should do during our season of waiting.

#1 Do not move ahead of Christ. Go when God says to go. Stop when God says to stop.

Everything you and I do must not only be inside the will of God, but also inside of His timing. If we rush ahead and try to make something happen according to our timeline and in our own way, chances are we will find we should have waited on God. Jesus tells us in Is 49:23, "Those who hope in Me will not be disappointed." Therefore, know that if God is making you wait, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!! God knows exactly what He is doing and He knows what dangers lie ahead. Do not rush God's timing. Allow Him to lead you. God is a god of love, and you are His child. Will He not take care of you? (Matt 6:26)

#2 Pray.

Yes. This can be a tough one. Your response is probably, "Wait. You want me to talk to the person that is causing this pain of waiting?" And my response is, "Yes." Again, we can be assured of the goodness of Christ when He says in Is 66:9, "I will not cause pain without allowing something new to be born." Even though God may be the one causing pain (or allowing it), He has a reason for it. God is an intentional God. He doesn't just allow us to go through a difficult season for any 'ole reason. There is purpose in this season. Could it be that He wants you and I to grow deeper in our prayer life?

#3 Worship Him

When I say worship Him, I mean tell God who He is and what He means to you: "God, You are great. God, You are good. God, You love me and You are looking out for me. God, I can trust You with my whole heart. Jesus, You know what's best for me. Thank You God for desiring what is best for me." There is something about worship that changes the heart. When you remind yourself of the goodness of Christ, you begin to feel that it is okay to wait. New thoughts come to mind. Worship changes you and it humbles you. Your prayers go from, "God, why? Why? Why? Why am I waiting for so long???? I mean, seriously, God. Do you even care? Do you even notice? I thought You loved me!!" To, "God, this is a very tough season for me. No, I don't have a reason as to why I am still waiting, but God..I trust You. You are good and You know what is best. This is not easy, but I can rest in knowing You are looking out for me and there will be joy." Worshiping God is really for you. It reminds you and I of who is in control.

#4 Be Thankful

Remember, God has already given you and I so much. He's given us more than we even deserve! Do you already have a home? Be thankful. Do you already have a job? Be thankful. Do you already have wonderful friends? Be thankful. No, the home, may not be the size you want. No, your job may not be ideal. And no, having friends may not be the same as having your own girlfriend or boyfriend. But you know what? They are all still wonderful things to have in your life. Enjoy them! You never know when any of those things may be gone. Christ doesn't want us to be spoiled (i.e. we receive a blessing then before you know it, we want something else!) No. He wants us to cherish what He has already given us. Be thankful.

So, that's it! What do you do in a season of waiting? Don't move ahead of God. Pray. Worship Him and Be thankful. These are four foundational things we all must do. God doesn't want us to just obey Him, pray to Him, worship Him, and be thankful during a season of blessing. He wants us to do each of these things at all times. Once you receive the things you are waiting for, guess what? You are going to be waiting for ANOTHER thing! So, as you wait continue to do each of these things. God knows it is tough. He sees your pain and, yes, He understands. Just remember, He cares for you and is teaching you. As you go through this season, trust Him. Just keep your eyes on Him, and in due season, you will be satisfied. PS 145:15 "The eyes of all look to you, and You give them their food at the proper time."

God bless.
